NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. The event is held each year during the month of November. The object is to write a complete novel of at least 50,000 words in the thirty days, that's an average of 1667 words per day. The first year I participated in NaNoWriMo was 2004. You can find out more about NaNoWriMo at the official web site.
2007: Crash Course
A scientist has some trouble in his lab and he decides to take some time off to recharge his batteries. A friend offers him a house in the south of France. He decides to accept, but first he signs up for a French class to brush up his language skills before going across the Atlantic. After the first class he thinks the course will be a waste of time, but the second night he meets Rachael and it starts to look like he has made the right decision.
2006: The Trace Agency
The Trace Agency is about a Azimuth Trace and his father Zenith Trace. Zenith runs a detective agency in Tallahassee, Florida. He has experiences an accute episode of heart failure that puts him into the cardiac ICU at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Azimuth flies to Tallahassee to be with his father and ends up helping Zenith with a few of his active cases.
In addition to the fictional text, I've incorporated a series of philosophical essays that weave through the narrative (in the spirit of Milan Kundera).
2005: The Weighting Game
The Weighting Game was originally concieved as a non-fiction book that my wife and I planned to co-author on the subject of fad diets. I collected notes on fad dieting for about a year, reading medical studies and popular treatments. I realized that weight gain was not just a health problem, but a symptom of a larger problem in our society--namely, consumerism and the ``more is better'' attitude. After finishing NaNo2004 I started thinking about what to do next. I decided to turn my ideas for The Weighting Game into a novel. If you want to follow my progress as I write this novel in November 2005, see my special page for The Weighting Game.
2004: Catherine
Catherine is
set in Rome, Italy. The protagonist is named Adam Fisher. He is a student
at Saint Thomas Aquinas College. He is also the novel's narrator. Adam
has a series of sexual encounters as he struggles with all those big
questions that sophomores in college think are so grand and important.
Adam has a girlfriend back home in the States named Melanie. He has a
defective relationship with the suicidal Polly, a series of instructive
encounters with the nymphomaniac Gina, and all the time he's doing his best
to get the attention of Catherine. Most people's lives are full of missed
opportunities. Adam's problem is that he takes advantage of all the wrong
opportunities.
